Chinese manufacturer EHang has achieved a significant milestone with its VT-30 heavy-lift drone, successfully demonstrating a 200kg payload capacity in controlled flight tests. The eight-rotor coaxial design provides redundant lift capability, maintaining safe flight even with two motor failures at maximum payload.
The VT-30 targets logistics applications including construction material delivery to remote sites, emergency medical supply transport, and offshore platform resupply. With a range of 40km at full payload and 80km at half load, the drone covers distances impractical for ground transport in mountainous or island terrain.
Certification processes are underway with CAAC and EASA for commercial cargo operations. Meanwhile, competitors including Volocopter and Archer Aviation are developing similar heavy-lift platforms, signaling a new competitive segment in the commercial drone market focused on replacing short-haul truck and helicopter freight.
